Debt Advice charity you can trust

Free Debt Management Plans from a UK debt charity

Welcome to Debt Advice Foundation. We are a registered national debt advice charity offering free, confidential support and advice to anyone worried about debt.

If you have serious debts, a Debt Management Plan could be the best way for you to avoid bankruptcy and regain control of your finances.

A Debt Management Plan is a informal agreement between you and the people you owe money to. In return for paying back what you can realistically afford each month (after your essential living costs have been taken into account), your creditors will look at:

  • freezing interest on your debts
  • not taking any further action against you (this includes petitioning for bankruptcy)
  • allowing you to keep your home (as long as you stick to the agreement)

Whilst most companies will charge you between 10% and 15% of your monthly payment for providing this service, at Debt Advice Foundation, we don't believe anyone should be asked to pay a fee in these circumstances, which is why our Debt Management Plans are free of charge.

However, in a Debt Management Plan, you will still be required to pay back your debts in full, no matter how long it takes, and because Debt Management Plans are informal agreements, your creditors are not legally obliged to freeze interest or stop pursuing you for the full contractual payments. When considering whether Debt Management is right for you, it's important to bear in mind that you may qualify for other debt solutions that will allow you to become debt free much quicker. That’s why it’s so important to get impartial advice up front (see our Debt Management section for more information).

If you need confidential advice on Debt Management or would like to find out if you qualify, there's no need to wait or book an appointment, our Advisors are available Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm and Saturday 9am to 5pm on 0800 043 40 50.

* Our services are available to anyone worried about debt, no matter how serious they believe their debt problem is. We provide a wide range of advice and solutions and will only recommend the solution that is right for each individual's circumstances. This may be as simple as helping them to prioritise their debt payments or negotiate with their creditors through to more formal solutions that we can manage on their behalf.
