Q

Where can I find bankruptcy help?

A

There are lots of places you can go to get Bankruptcy help. Which is right for you depends on what type of bankruptcy assistance you need.

  • If you wish to petition for your own Bankruptcy and you are happy that you’ve considered all of the alternatives (such as an IVADebt Management and Debt Relief Order) then the Gov.uk website enables you to manage the process yourself online.
  • The Insolvency Serviceis responsible for regulating the insolvency profession and is part of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.  You can find the service’s guide to bankruptcy here.
  • There is a large FAQ resource on this website that might be able to help you answer any specific Bankruptcy questions you have.
  • If you need Bankruptcy help because you’re unsure whether Bankruptcy is right for you, you can talk to one of Debt Advice Foundation’s helpline advisors in confidence about your options.

You can read more about Bankruptcy and whether it is suitable for your situation in our Bankruptcy section.

Debt Advice Foundation is a registered UK charity offering free, confidential support and advice on any aspect of debt, including Bankruptcy. If you need to talk to someone about Bankruptcy or would like to discuss the alternatives, please call to speak to an adviser.
