Education - Debt Advice Foundation

The importance of debt education

Debt Advice Foundation was set up to help tackle the growing numbers of people in the UK that find themselves affected by debt.  One of the ways we do this is to try to prevent people from getting into unmanageable debt in the first place.

Research1 has shown that key attitudes and behaviours to money (money habits) are developed by the age of seven, which is why we believe that starting financial education at primary school is essential to help the next generation understand how to manage money effectively and minimise the risk of getting into future financial difficulty.

That’s why we established DebtAware, a pioneering peer to peer financial education programme that teaches over 10,000 schoolchildren each year about managing money.

You can read more about the wonderful work that our school Money Mentors are doing in About as well as some of the kind and complimentary things people have said about the programme in Endorsements.

Details of our schools programme and other activities can be found in Programmes.
