The case for financial education is being made at this month’s party conferences, with the Personal Finance Education Group (pfeg) lobbying for young people to be taught money management in all schools – a cause strongly supported by Debt Advice Foundation.

Two fringe meetings are to be held at the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham next week; the first on Teenagers, Money and Safe Spending, chaired by Stuart Andrew MP, and the second entitled “Financial Education – let’s make it count”, chaired by Justin Tomlinson MP, chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Financial Education for Young People, with speakers including Mark Garnier MP, vice-chair of the same group.

Tracey Bleakley, chief executive of pfeg, will be speaking at both events.
