Debt Advice Enquiries Set To Soar In The North
The Centre for Economic and Business Research (CEBR) predicts one in ten northerners will be unemployed within the next five years, putting a significant strain on the existing debt advice infrastructure. The research is published hot off the heels of a report by Experian which predicted that the industrial heartlands of the north will be severely hit by the impending public sector cuts. This is in stark contrast to the South which will see an increased share of national economic activity (up to 20% from 16.3% in 1995), due to resurgent finance and banking sectors.

Douglas McWilliams, the chief executive of the CEBR said “Bankrolling public-sector employment in the North through the tax base in the South is clearly not going to be possible over the near future”.
