Campaign To Reduce Personal Insolvencies In 2011

This week the Insolvency Service launched a campaign to help raise awareness about debt advice services in the UK – in a bid to reduce levels of personal insolvency.

Although the number of people facing insolvency last year was slightly lower than the record breaking levels of 2009, the initiative has highlighted the need for individuals to have free access to money advice and help for dealing with debt problems.

The Insolvency Service’s ‘Dealing with your debt’ campaign has received strong support from the charity sector, including Citizens Advice, the Consumer Credit Counselling Service and the Money Advice Trust.  As a national debt charity, we agree that people in the UK need to be encouraged to seek free and impartial advice, as it’s essential not to delay addressing financial issues.

Stephen Speed, Chief Executive of The Insolvency Service said: “If you are getting into trouble, act quickly and seek advice about how to deal with it.  There are plenty of sources of advice, many of which are available free of charge.  If insolvency looms then remember that you have choices.  Discuss these with your adviser and make sure you understand which one is best for you.”

Debt Advice Foundation is a national source of free debt advice in the UK. People can speak to our counselling team by calling 0800 043 40 50 and also have access to our online debt tools section.
