Water bills set to increase over the next 5 years
The water regulator, Ofwat, has released draft proposals for an increase in sector investment that will see average water bills rise by £19 per year over the next five years.
The increase in spending is required to tackle pollution, improve water quality and deliver greater resilience to the impact of climate change according to the regulator,
The water sector has been under increasing pressure to modernise the network, with ineffective storm overflows and the quality of water in lakes, rivers and seas in the UK a concern.
Customers, stakeholders and water companies have until August 28th, 2024, to respond to these draft proposals. The final decision will be made by Ofwat and is expected to be published on 19th December 2024.
