According to Money and Pensions Service, 18% of the UK adult population, equating to around 9.3 million people, is currently in need of debt advice, with a further 22% deemed as ‘at risk’ of falling into problem debt.
For many people, the first signs of financial difficulty can be things like failed card payments, requests for additional borrowing or missed or deferred monthly bill payments. Early intervention is crucial to preventing a situation getting worse and that’s where our partners come in.
Debt Advice Foundation’s trained advisers provide immediate advice and support to anyone that calls the charity’s helpline in the following areas:
- Crisis management – ensuring all emergencies, such as an imminent threat of eviction, are identified and prioritised.
- Income maximisation and welfare benefits advice – making sure households are aware of their welfare benefit entitlement.
- Debt solution advice – resolving problem debt and preventing creditor enforcement action.
- Budgeting support – building financial resilience and preventing future financial detriment.
Service-users are able to contact the charity by telephone, hotkey referral or online. The charity also offers bespoke service-user outcomes reporting to partner organisations.
