IMF Disapproval Of Government’s Fiscal Strategy

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has warned that the UK’s public finances remain constrained while remaining in a precarious postition in comparision to other major advanced ecomomies. The IMF has also stated that it fundamentally disagrees with the Coalition government’s ‘quick fix’ strategy, that it should instead be planning a medium to long term fiscal restructuring.

The IMF report says “In order to protect the fragile economic recovery, support growth and job creation and provide reassurance to capital markets, fiscal adjustment plans must be clearly defined but with a focus on the medium term rather than seeking a quick fix”.
